AURA® Infusion Technology

Description
  • Adds color or functional additives to parts after they are molded or extruded
  • Allows on-demand coloring and reduces colored resin and colored part inventories
  • Intended for applications requiring multiple colors
  • Not for food-contact applications
  • Allows functional additives to be infused right at the surface — not buried deep within a part, where they add no value
Process

Color and functional additives applied to molded or extruded parts using proprietary infusion technology. Parts are immersed in a special solution which integrates color and additives into the parts. Color and additives penetrate below the surface and cannot be rubbed-off. Equipment can be sized to handle a wide variety of parts, from the smallest to the largest, and can be set up in customer's shop.

Colors and Special Effects
  • Color added to transparent, translucent, or opaque parts. Best results obtained when using clear transparent or translucent, or opaque white parts.
  • Adds color, not special effects. It is possible to add color to parts molded from a resin that contains special effects such as glitter or metal flake however.
  • Does not generate black, white, or light grey colors and metallic special effects.
  • Size of colorant or additive molecules and other solubility in the solution will ultimately determine whether these species can be infused.
Materials
Parts made of:
  • Makrolon® polycarbonate (PC)
  • Bayblend® PC/ABS blend (opaque only)
  • Makroblend® PC/polyester blend (some grades, opaque only)
