It all began in 2006, when a representative of a manufacturing company brought Bryan May, of Apollo Color Coating, a prototype. The product? A trailer hitch plug cover shaped to look like the back of a shotgun shell. Designed with avid sportsmen in mind, the manufacturers wanted these steel plug covers to take on the realistic tones of brass, but without the expense that manufacturing in brass would add.
After significant R&D, May's team determined AURA® infusion technology offered the shades, quality color and flexibility they needed. As a result, these quirky plug covers have become a highly popular offering among sports enthusiasts.
So popular, in fact, that now these brass-colored shells are available with the imprinted outline of a number of big sporting states including Michigan, Iowa, Indiana and Illinois, while new states are in development now.
The colors of AURA infusion technology have even allowed the product line to expand from shades reflecting today's new brass, to the warmer, redder, more historic brass tones customized for members of American frontier reenactment societies. AURA infusion technology's precision coloring helps bring the shade of antique shell casings back to life.
Soon, the plug covers will be available in customized styles to reflect today's most famous cartridge manufacturers.
And now, Apollo Color Coatings is finding a new array of exciting applications for AURA infusion technology. Lipstick tubes take on shine in a rainbow of colors. Chrome motorcycle gas tanks roar with vibrant energy. The hottest prototype cars are adorned with nameplates as sleek and high-tech as the machines themselves. Even bowling pins light up the alleys with glow-in-the-dark fun.
The applications are unlimited. And May says what really makes AURA® infusion technology effective is not just its vast color choice, but its color consistency.
