When it Comes to Sustainability, Bayer Makes the Grade(s)
In keeping with sustainability, one of the central themes of its business, Bayer MaterialScience introduced several new eco-friendly grades of its Makroblend® polycarbonate/polyester blend resin and Bayblend® polycarbonate/acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (PC/ABS) blend resin. These grades are available in natural color, or a limited color selection.
With the Bayer MaterialScience name behind them, the new grades still exhibit all of the properties customers have come to expect from Makroblend polycarbonate/polyester blend and Bayblend polycarbonate/ABS blend — and have the added eco-friendly, sustainable benefits.
The new offerings include two bio-based Makroblend polycarbonate blend resins containing polyactide (PLA), a corn-derived polymer. These bio-based grades can be used in applications ranging from mobile phones and smart phones, portable electronics, housings and enclosures, to furniture, sporting goods, toys and automotive interiors.
Three new flame retardant Bayblend polycarbonate blend grades contain post-consumer recycled content. These grades are ideal for use in housings and other electrical and lighting components, such as electrical, switch and meter housings, security and surveillance equipment and battery housings — but are a good fit for other applications, too, such as those in the IT, telecommunications and medical industries.
These new grades were developed as part of Bayer MaterialScience's overarching commitment to sustainability. More information on the grades and sustainability is featured in a new brochure, available here.
