BayVision from Bayer MaterialScience is a powerful glazing full-service product package tailored specifically to our customers' needs.
This solution— as part of a partnership with Momentive Performance Materials of Leverkusen, Germany— relies on an effective system called SHP 470 FT 2050, currently in development. This priming system coats durable, moldable, light-weight Makrolon® AG 2677 polycarbonate resin with both a primer and then an AS 4700 polysiloxane-based topcoat, as a part of a clever two-step process.
Together, these materials offer automotive manufacturers a wholly-unique alternative to glass. One that allows designers greater flexibility in their creations, empowering window and sun roof designs to transform from simple flat panels to all new dimensions. Air channels, sleek curves, angles and patterns—BayVision does it all seamlessly. Meanwhile, weight is cut by up to 50%.
And with less weight, comes reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Plus, the new glazing lowers the vehicle's center of gravity and actually improves its driving performance. The hard-coating process also weathers well, and is scratch resistant.
