While the big stars this Olympic season were the athletes gracing our television screens, strength, grace and high performance took center stage in another, more subtle way during the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China—with the help from Bayer MaterialScience and Makrolon® polycarbonate.

Designed to transmit more than 85% of light through the six millimeter thick sheets, using Makrolon meant the stands sheltered by this clear, clever material could be built close to the edge of the playing field. Spectators stay sheltered, while the grass gets the light it needs to grow!
